AI Writing & Editing

Notion was a writing tool first, and their AI reflects that. Notion AI can draft documents, summarize pages, translate content, and rewrite text with different tones. It feels natural — like having an editor built into every page.

ClickUp AI also generates and edits text, but it's more template-driven. It shines when creating task descriptions, user stories, and meeting notes from predefined formats. Less freeform, more structured.

Notion can do project management with databases, but it's more DIY. You build your own system with templates and relations. Notion AI helps within that system (summarize a project page, draft a PRD) but doesn't automate the PM workflow itself.

I use Notion for docs and runbooks, but sprint planning lives in Linear (not ClickUp). I tried ClickUp's AI standup generation for a month — it was impressive for the first week, then started producing generic summaries that nobody read. ClickUp has docs and wikis too, but they're secondary to the task management core. The AI search across ClickUp docs works but isn't as refined as Notion's Q&A experience.

Integrations

Both tools integrate with the usual suspects (Slack, GitHub, Google Workspace), but the depth differs:
